Warcry: The good value proposition

Hey and welcome back dear readers!

I seemed to have got bitten with the Warcry bug, as models for the game seems to grow at a fast rate. Looking around, I found a quite nice starter set for Age of Sigmar, more precisely the Warrior Starter set.

Pros +

  • Kruleboyz warband worth 1055 points
  • Thunderstrike Stormcast warband worth 950 Points ( The banner bearer as a count-as)
  • 2 Sided mat
  • Dice & range rulers & 1 terrain feature
  • Cheap, only ~30€!

Cons –

  • No warcry related cards and tokens
  • Monopose models
  • Not enough terrain for the full game
  • Does not include the rules for warcry

For about 30€, the value for the intended Age of Sigmar might be a little on the weak side, but using this set as the starter for Warcry is huge! Two full warbands for the price of not even one. You really can’t beat that.

Of course the missing tokens and cards for the models hurts, but thanks to the generosity of the Warhammer team, all the cards can be found as a PDF download on the Warhammer community page, along with the rules for the game. https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/08/18/charge-headlong-into-warcry-with-free-core-rules-to-download/

On to the models!

Boy has the modelling gone forward! Even these mono-pose dudes are fantastic! They still have a lot of gaps, due to them being the easy to assemble line of models that Games workshop puts out, and need a lot of green stuff to get a nice finish. But taking the for what they are, a first introduction to a new gamer to war-gaming not even requiring glue to assemble, the are absolutely smashing!

Then we have the Stormcast

Same as the Kruleboyz, these models are fan-fricking-tastic! Still suffer from the gigantic gaps though. The hardest part with these where actually the painting. Or more to say the coming up with a color scheme.

The Stormcast models I feel didn’t have much detail as the Orruks. Were the Kruleboyz had a lot of small detail, such as the individual strips of cloth being held together with thin straps, or the small spikes on the armour, The stormcast feel a lot more barren.

To summarize, as an entry point into Warcry this set is has a super value proposition, with the caveat that is does not contain the tokens or rules for warcry, even though these can be found for free to download.

See you soon!
