Hey and welcome back!
Lately I have been really itching to get some vehicle action into my games of Star Wars Legion, but the cost of miniatures in Finland has been prohibiting, and during this recession we’re in, the prices have become astronomical! (looking at you Fantasiapelit)
Well, I did what a cheapskate 3D printer owner would do, and found some decent looking star wars files on thingiverse, and started tinkering.
First off, as my CIS forces are severely lacking, so I got a Spider droid.

Looks pretty close to the real deal, biggest difference is the dome that is completely spherical, as the official models have some indents giving it a more detailed appearance.

And as to why I didn’t use my own model that is uploaded to thingiverse, well this is much better. (and mine is 4 years old already) And this file has additional legs to be able to make the model dynamic!
Next up, some love for the imps!

An Imperial players collection should never be without one of the most Iconic thing from star wars, The AT-ST!
This was akin to building the B1 droids; super fiddly, tons of super glue and heaps of frustration! The glue didn’t set completely and the pieces kept coming apart, so after a while I settled for a bit of an downwards tilting pose.
Link to the file: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:24451. Pleas note, that to get it to Legion scale, print it at 65%!
This is also the first time I see how bad my picture setup is. My model in real life is dark blue-grey, and in the photos it’s light grey… I really need to order one of those photo boot things from ebay.
As you can see, 3D printing makes some sense when your are trying to save a buck on models, but remember that these are not as detailed as the official models, and aren’t tournament legal. Always check with your opponent if it’s okay to bring them to your games. As such these should only be used in your games with your friends.
Until next time!
Cheers!
